The Al-Qadir Trust Case, in which former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested
Imran Khan has been arrested. Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was detained by rangers outside Islamabad High Court in a spectacular change of events. The PTI Chief was apprehended outside the Islamabad High Court, where he had gone to seek bail in various instances, in the Al-Qadir Trust case.
PTI vice-president Fawad Chaudhry stated on Twitter that Khan was kidnapped from the court, that the IHC has been “occupied by Rangers,” and that lawyers are “being tortured.”
Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, was detained by rangers outside Islamabad High Court in the Al-Qadir Trust case. Khan and his wife, together with their assistants, are members of the Al-Qadir University Project Trust, which was established to provide superior education. Khan is also the subject of a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) investigation investigating the theft of Rs50 billion and the loss of 190 million pounds to the national exchequer. They are also suspected of acquiring improper perks, like as land, in order to create Al Qadir University.
Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi, and their close advisers Zulfiqar Bukhari and Babar Awan have all been active in the Al-Qadir University Project Trust. According to a Pakistani media story, Khan, Bushra Bibi, Bukhari, and Awan created the Al-Qadir University Project Trust. It was established to provide superior education in Tehsil Sohawa, District Jhelum, Punjab.
Khan, along with his wife Bushra Bibi and other PTI leaders, is being investigated by the NAB in connection with a settlement between the PTI government and a property tycoon that allegedly resulted in a 190 million pound loss to the national exchequer.
The former Pakistan Prime Minister is accused of syphoning Rs50 billion — 190 million pounds at the time — supplied to the government by Britain’s National Crime Agency (NCA).
They are also accused of improperly obtaining about 458 kanals of land in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, to create Al Qadir University.
In Islamabad, Section 144 has been imposed.
The police commander described the situation in Islamabad as “normal,” saying that Section 144 had been implemented throughout the capital and that offenders would face consequences.
Meanwhile, PTI secretary general Asad Umar has tweeted that the next course of action will be decided by a six-member committee led by PTI vice-chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi.
What exactly is the Al-Qadir University affair, and how is Imran involved?
The Al-Qadir University Project Trust (AQUPT) is all the rage. Imran Khan has been arrested in connection with the crime.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, his wife, Bushra Bibi, and two close aides, Zulfiqar Abbas Bukhari and Zaheer Ud Din Babar Awan, are all embroiled in a scandal involving the AQUPT.
According to Academia magazine, a document examined by a journalist revealed that Khan, Bushra Bibi, Bukhari, and Awan established the trust with the goal of establishing the Al-Qadir University in Tehsil Sohawa District Jhelum, Punjab, to provide quality education. The trust later signed an MOU with a private firm, Bahria Town, to receive donations from the latter, and Bahria Town awarded the trust land measuring 458 Kanal, 4 Marla, and 58 square feet.
However, critics expressed concerns about the transaction, and the crisis erupted when Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah stated that Khan rigged its shares and devalued the land transferred through collaboration. Critics have raised concerns about the trust accepting millions of rupees in donations for operational operations in 2021 for an educational institute that is still under construction and is not yet recognised as a university by the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC). The trust was given Rs180 million for operations expenses, but records only indicated 8.52 million cipf-es.org rupees. The trustees must respond to the public and restore transparency.
The AQUP Trust seeks to resurrect the Islamic civilization’s legacy of knowledge acquisition. It aspires to produce morally upright and intellectually vibrant Muslim Umma leaders. The Al-Qadir University groundbreaking event took place on May 5, 2019, in Sohawa, with Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan laying the foundation stone. The trust had purchased land and purpose-built facilities, attracted prestigious teachers and capable staff, and installed infrastructure tailored to a high-quality educational setting. However, there are severe concerns regarding the trust’s legitimacy and transparency.
The controversy raises concerns about the trust’s agreement with Bahria Town, which donated land to the trust. Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah claimed in a December 2019 cabinet meeting that the previous government approved an agreement in a sealed envelope in which “Mr Clean, Sadiq, and Amin” made an adjustment from Bahria Town instead of depositing the Rs 50 billion recovered in the UK into the national treasury. Sanaullah also claimed that 240 Kanals of the total given land were transferred in the name of Farah Gogi, Khan’s wife’s close aide, and that the value of the land transferred through cooperation was understated.
Former finance minister Miftah Ismail stated in a tweet that Khan returned to Riaz Rs4,275 crore (£190 million pounds) taken by British officials.
At the same time, Riaz gave hundreds of acres of land to a trust, the trustees of which are Khan, Bushra Bibi, and Farah Gogi. The trustees must respond to the people after critics voiced concerns about the arrangement. The issue has raised questions about the trust’s legitimacy and openness.
